Design Process

Throughout my 15 years of experience in the Landscaping industry no two projects have been the same.   Drawing on my experience I will suggest the best approach for you tailoring my design service to provide a service that perfectly fits your scheme.

Here's a diagram of a typical process for a full garden makeover from the initial meeting, through the design process to installation.

Initial consultation

The first stage of the design process is set in the comfort of your own home.  We'll discuss your ideas and vision for your garden and explore styles, colours, form and texture.  Following the meeting I will produce a Design brief, a document which details everything we've discussed during the consultation, the suggested design service options and potential fees.

Inspiration

On acceptance I'll direct you to my Pinterest and Houzz pages where we can explore your style in detail.  These are tools we use together to communicate ideas and inspire.  Once I feel I have a accurate understanding of the style of garden you'd like to create I'm almost ready to start designing.‚Äč

A survey is taken of the garden including boundaries, levels, existing structures, trees, plants and soil condition.  Very large and demanding sites may require the use of a professional surveyor.

Concept development

This is the fun part.  Loaded with all the information we need to create your unique design, I work on a series of conceptual ideas and develop them into either a single sketch or a series of sketches illustrating the possibilities and my proposed vision of your landscape.  (This is the final stage of the Sketch package).

Having gathered feedback on the design concepts I will then use this information to further develop and finalise the design into a complete package ready to hand over.  You will be provided with a 3D CAD visualisation and technical drawings including detailed plans of the garden and features included in the design.  (This is the final stage of the Structural design package).

Planting plan

Now that we have a design to work to together we'll compose a new design brief detailing the planting style we aim to achieve, including colours, textures, favoured plants and trees etc.  A planting plan will be supplied along with a plant schedule and a quote for the sourcing, placing and implementation.

Final design development & Completion

Finding a contractor

I can recommend one of my trusted & approved landscapers to tender for the project.  If you already have one in place I can work with your landscaper and offer information and direction required in order to take the project forward.

Project management

My designs can be complicated so it's important to be able to explain the designs and direct the installer to ensure the garden is built as the design intends and to a high standard of workmanship.  I will be there to oversee the installation process and make key decisions which may effect the design.  I can handle any processes for specific materials, features and products so that you can relax and watch your garden take shape.

Site Survey

In order to achieve the best possible results I can source the plants and trees from my recommended list of  nurseries, arrange delivery and plant on completion of the hard landscaping.
